What is an IRR?

IRR (Internal Rate of Return) is the average annual total return from an investment over a specified time period. It is also called the discounted cash flow rate of return (DCFROR) or simply the rate of return (ROR) (Ref: Wikipedia).

How can I calculate IRR using OpenOffice.org Calc?

Over at Online Tech Tips, they have a very current tutorial on exactly that using OOo Calc: Calculate an Investment’s Internal Rate of Return (IRR) with OpenOffice Calc. This would translate quite well into LibreOffice and NeoOffice as well.

This uses the IRR function which is available in OOo and other derivatives.

For more information on using this, visit the OOo Calc documentation on the IRR() Function.

This is one of the many financial functions available in OOo, NeoOffice and LibreOffice. For more information on Financial Functions available, check out the list of financial functions here.
