Turning off Capitalisation in Impress and Writer [OpenOffice.org, LibreOffice and NeoOffice]

I was recently reading through a tutorial and noticed that the writer (Akkana) was frustrated with the auto-capitalisation at the beginning of sentences in OpenOffice.org Impress.

Turning this feature off is relatively simple, however you need to do it in each of the programs to ensure it is applied to both Writer and Impress.

I’ve also included links for those wanting to do this in Microsoft Word and iWorks Pages.

Turning Off Auto-Capitalisation in Writer

  1. Open or start a new Writer document.
  2. Select Tools >> AutoCorrect Options…
  3. Remove the ticks next to ‘Capitalise first letter of every sentence’

Turning Off Aut0-Capitalisation in Impress

  1. Open or start a new Impress presentation.
  2. Select Tools >> AutoCorrect Options…
  3. Remove the ticks next to ‘Capitalise first letter of every sentence’

Turning off Auto Correct Features in Other Office Software

  • Turning off AutoFormat features in Microsoft Office (multiple versions)
  • In Pages (Apple iWorks), select Pages >> Preferences from the menu, then click on the Auto-Correction tab and ensure that ‘Fix Capitalisation’ is not ticked.
  • In Keynote (Apple iWorks), the process is almost identical. Select Keynote >> Preferences from the menu, then click on the Auto-Correction tab and ensure that ‘Fix Capitalisation’ is not ticked.
